I was at a large house of a friend of mine ( a dream friend, not a real friend ). It was a guy, named Seth. Anyway, Seth's mother had died. But she kept showing up at their house. Night after night, she would return. And as her face deteriorated more and more, she began to wear a mask of her own face so her son would not see the rot and death upon her. I kept telling him that this wasn't right. That she was supposed to be gone. She knew what I was saying to him. And she didn't like it. I cd sense that she wanted to shut me up. For good. One day, Seth and I, and one or two other friends of ours, were walking to the convenient store to get a pack of cigarettes. An elderly man with with a white beard was behind the counter. I asked him for smokes. He was surprisingly all out of them. We were disappointed, but as we were looking around for other items and purchasing snacks instead of cigs, we actually came across an open half pack of cigarettes in an old chair. As soon as I found them, an alarm started to go off. The alarm came from outside, not within, and we all heard a voice as loud as thunder straight from the sky. It said, "REPENT, FOR THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN IS NEAR". Immediately we all knew we had to get back to the house. I knew smoking was a sin, so I left the cigarettes where they were and ran outside with the others. The very second we were all out the door I changed my mind abt the cigarettes. I did want them. Since the guys had spent the only money we had on snacks since the old man was out of cigs, we wdnt be able to buy any later on at another store. So I turned around to go back in real quick and grab the cigarett řes. ⁴But the old man was already locking up shop by way of large metal grate doors. Fortunately I'm thin enough to squeeze in between the gaps. I ran to the cigarettes and grabbed them. The old man didn't like this. He started asking me questions like how many were in them. I figured since they were already opened and half empty that it wasnt really stealing. I tried to make it aound like they were ours and we just left them by mistake. He ran to me and pushed me against the wall until a cactus jammed itself between my neck and my ear. The way it moved in between my ear and neck made me know this wasn't a regular cacti. It was alive. Abt the size of a worm, and just as alive as one. The old man whispered something to me, then let me go. I ran out and joined my friends. We ran straight to Seth's house. His house as I said was quite large, and it was full of ppl! We made our way through the crowd of ppl upstairs to his moms room. Even here it was packed with guests. I knew that if she showed up tonight, his mom, that at least then Seth wd stop questioning his sanity. Having a house full of party guests see his dead mother would go far in helping Seth's mental health. Sure enough she walked in through her bedroom balcony door. At first she just stood there. Seth and I both ran to her. She opened her arms and Seth ran straight into them. She had a new mask on. One of her slightly younger face. When Seth was done hugging her, I went in for a hug as well. I saw behind her mask. Where her face was now nothing but a skull. She looked me directly in the eyes when I finished my hug with her. I whispered to her, "Will you one day tell Seth the truth"? She smiled and shook her head yes. I smiled back, finally alright with all of this, and having finally made amends with his dead mother.
