Hopping lamp

I went home for fall break. The dirty closet in my dining room was clean and organized so I was happy. I switched in the overhead light, but it was still dim. “You need another light,” I told my mom. “We have one, but it’s too much to deal with.” Then I noticed a lamp. I switched it on, and it starting hopping around a bit like it was alive. I switched it off. Behind the lamp was a square hole in the wall, big enough to crawl through. It was pitch black inside. I was scared so I left the closet. Then I went outside and laid in the grass with my sister. I heard my parents talking from their room, so I belly-crawled below their window to listen in. My old cat Maria came over and cuddled with me. Her fur was the same color as the stone slabs on the path. Grey, blue and red.
