My son called me from school saying he was lying down in the hallway because he was in so much pain. I asked why and he said he had pierced his chest. Alarmed, I called the school and told them to check on him as I thought he meant he had a puncture wound in his chest. He called me again and said no one was helping him so I went up to the school, which was my old high school, and for some reason I went straight to the cafeteria first. I saw an Indian food truck and asked if they had vegan food. The main cook was way too excited about showing me what was vegan, which were only a few things. Then he pointed to a type of large pineapple fruit that he said was so sweet and delicious that they kept it with the ice cream as a dairy free alternative. He pulled off a chunk and I tried it - it tasted like super mellow subtly sweet lemonade. It was delicious. So then I go to find my son and sure enough he's lying on a hallway floor. I rush over and ask him to show me his chest. He's wearing a matching set of shirt and shorts with vertical stripes that make it look like a jumpsuit. He moves his ID lanyard out of the way and raises his shirt to reveal four fake piercings clamped to his chest, two next to his nipples and two at the top and bottom of his chest. They look like crisscrossing fish hooks with earrings dangling from them. I'm simultaneously relieved and appalled and I ask where they came from and he says the nurse. I pull him towards the nurse and make some exclamation that not much has changed since I was in school.
