Like any other day, I walked to Tesco's Express to buy some things from the shop. Before I approached the doors, I realised I recognised the black car parked 'splat bang' in the middle of the carpark which was obscuring the entrance and exit. When I rushed over to check if it was, indeed, my car, I was shocked to find a hefty fine planted on my windscreen. "Argh, Mat!" I muttered angrily. As I climbed inside the car and started the engine, I recognised a car driving into the car park "A box on wheels, it can only be Mat's father!" And, sure enough, it was. "OH shit! I hope he doesn't see me!" I thought to myself. Too late! He was already knocking on the window. I rolled it down and pretended to be interested in what he was saying...but my mind wondered to a distant memory with my daughter. We were sorting through her old Barbies and I was reading the dates (of origin) on the back of their necks. Every single Barbie I picked up was made in the same year - "2007" ... "But that's impossible!" I thought, a chill crawling down my spine. I was back at the house when I heard a loud knock at the door, I opened it to find Mike (can't I get rid of this man?) But this time, he was with a young man in a wheelchair. "The teachers at school don't deem it acceptable for Phoebe (my daughter) to hang out with this boy because - in their words - she's too unstable!" He told me, with a look of concern across his face. "She's not that bad!" I thought, with a strong desire to defend her. Next scene; I was in a huge 'never ending' compartment store. I was walking up and down the main aisle where the other smaller aisles divide off. Instinctively, I was drawn to the toy aisle, but there were two men (identities unknown) hovering around and I didn't want them to see me or make a fuss. So I found myself doing a loop up the main aisle and back again. Once in the toy aisle, I found a scooter for Alex "He'd love this!" I beamed. But when I got it out of the box it looked flimsy and had shrunk down to next to nothing. "What a disappointment!" I thought. "I think I'll give it a miss!" Next scene; I took the boys swimming in this outdoors pool with lots of different slides and water rides. They were having the time of their lives but I was finding it hard to keep an eye on them both. Furthermore, I was worried - because he was absent his goggles - that Alex would drown on the water slide. The water was pretty powerful - like a jet stream. Luckily, he didn't drown. He was quite resilient. Like a little water baby. Next scene; Mat wanted my honest opinion on whether I thought this girl was attractive. He showed me two pictures on his phone. She looked young - too young - like one of those disturbing beauty pageant kids made to look like an adult. "I think she looks strange. It's like her facial features aren't in the right place! Not attractive at all!" I said, with a hint of annoyance growing in my voice. "Is he trying to piss me off?" I questioned silently. "And is this his new girlfriend?" He was disappointed by my response. I could see it in his face.
